We will also have tarck Thursday’s/Friday’s but that’s still in the works. Back to BIke Polo. I’ll let Tree, the organizer of Bike Polo, explain the rules to you.

Tree:
“Hello and welcome to Wednesday Night Bike Polo, we are going to be having our Second game February 10th at 7pm. We will be meeting at the SJSU fountain, at which point we are going to try and get a couple games in right there between the palm trees, someone has told me that this is called “quantum”.

We will not be playing our games according to time, rather we will play first to 5 points.

You do not need to bring anything more then your bike. We have all the necessary equipment for you and your friends to come. (but if u bring your own, you can have it all styled to your liking.)

We will be playing 5 vs. 5.

When you get there you will be put on a random team. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK YOUR OWN TEAM. This is because we are all learning, we do not want stacked teams, and you might as well make new friends.

ALL BIKES WELCOME

Bring you bike at your own risk. We are all trying to keep our bikes nice, even the beaters. We are all looking out for each others health. But we cannot protect against the random.

Rules:

Bike polo is played on a court, with 2 goals, the object of the game is to score points against the other team. The way points are scored is by hitting a “roller hockey” ball with the small side of your mallet through the goal.

Start of a game: Each team will be stopped behind its own goal line and the ball will be positioned at center court. Play will begin with a “3 2 1 POLO!” from the sideline.

You may use the mallet in any way you feel fit, but in order to have a scored goal, the ball must be hit by the small end of the mallet, or a hit with the wheel. No throwing mallets.

While in play the player must not touch the ground with any object besides their bike or mallet. If this occurs the player will be taken out of the area of play, mount their bike, and then touch an object deemed at the location, that will enable that player to be an active player. BETWEEN THE TIME THE FOUL OCCURS AND “Tagging up” (the act of touching the object) THAT PLAYER MAY NOT TOUCH THE BALL OR GET IN THE WAY OF ANY ACTIVE PLAYER.

You may not use your feet to play the ball.

Reasonable contact is acceptable, since this is the first game, reasonable contact is going to be VERY light, if at any time the ref feels that you are being unreasonable, he or she will ask you to “tag up” at which point you must leave the area of play, and touch the object with your mallet.

ONLY “like” contact is allowed. Person to person, mallet to mallet, bike to bike. NO Mallet to player, player to bike, mallet to bike, etc. if you do one of these fouls the ref will ask you to tag up, if it is by accident, say your sorry, and mean it.

Right of way. The right of way is to the player in possession of the ball. This means you may not get in his or her way. You must be going parallel and in the same direction of the player in possession to perform any defensive moves. IF THE RIGHT OF WAY IS OBSTRUCTED BY ANY OTHER PLAYER THE REF WILL AS YOU TO TAG UP, PREMPTIVELY IF YOU DO NOT MOVE.

ABSLOUTLY NO T-BONE ‘ING. You are not allowed to get perpendicular to the player in possession, by cutting them off or track standing them. If you do commit this foul the ref will yell obscenities at you, probably call you an idiot or some other degrading term. And you will have to tag up. This is because T-bones can injury bike and rider VERY easy.

Trash talking is allowed….. you bitch ”
